Camp O.P.P. - Training My Dog

Camp O.P.P. is offering a NEW program for Winter Break 2021, February 15-19. Training My Dog is geared towards helping 4th-8th graders learn how to train their dog companion and in doing so build a closer bond with them.  This camp is different from our traditional Camp O.P.P. programs! Learning will be a combination of in-person and virtual, and campers will be working with and training their personal dogs. This inaugural camp offering will be limited to 8 campers so read on and sign-up quick since space is limited.

Day 1: Dog Language & Introduction to Training

Day 1 of Camp O.P.P. is always geared towards learning how dogs communicate with us. This is especially important when training with a dog! The morning of Day 1 will be spent learning Dog Language and the campers will practice with the rescue dogs in our Pet Adoption Facility. After lunch, campers will learn Clicker Training which will be used for the remainder of the week when training with their own dogs. Campers will have the opportunity to teach our rescue dogs a few tricks to practice.

Day 1 will be hosted at Our Pal's Place, Pet Adoption Facility located at 4508 Canton Road in Marietta.

Day 2: Training

Each camper and their dog will have a personal, one-on-one training session on either Tuesday or Wednesday with our Director, Amanda Wilkinson. Time slots will be 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 or 11:00am. Then in the afternoon, all campers and their dogs will participate in group training via Zoom.

One-On-One Training

Amanda has been with Our Pal's Place for over a decade and specializes in working with rescued dogs. Amanda will work with each camper on teaching their dog basic skills which will be used throughout the remainder of the week. Skills include but are not limited to sit, down and hand targeting.   The one-on-one training will be conducted at our Daycare, Boarding & Training facility located at 9533 Main Street in Woodstock, just 2 miles north of our Pet Adoption Facility.

Group Training

In the afternoon, each camper and their dog are invited to attend a Zoom training at 2:00pm. During this group training, campers will review body language by playing a game and then Amanda will demonstrate some of the tricks campers can teach their dog including puppy push-ups, spin, weave, shake, jump pole and ring bell.

Day 3: Training

One-on-one training for campers and their dogs continue with timeslots of 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 and 11:00am. In the afternoon, all campers and their dogs will participate in group training via Zoom.

One-On-One Training

Amanda will complete the personal one-on-one training sessions with the remaining campers at our Daycare, Boarding & Training located at 9533 Main Street in Woodstock.

Group Training

At 2:00pm, campers and their dogs are invited to attend another group training via Zoom. Now that each camper will have completed their one-on-one training with Amanda, the focus for the afternoon will be teaching dogs tricks. Under the guidance of Amanda, each camper will practice with their dog.

Day 4: Training

During Zoom training on Thursday, campers will create a talent show routine and under the guidance of Amanda will start practicing with their dogs.

Day 5: Talent Show!
