Back to Meet our Dogs

We received a text from our friend and loyal Cobb County Animal Services volunteer, Sherry. Sherry was desperately looking for help for sweet Bonnie. By help, we mean that Bonnie’s time was up. Sherry had befriended Bonnie way back in December when Bonnie arrived at the shelter as lost pup. Bonnie had obviously recently had puppies, but they were nowhere to be found when Bonnie was picked up. Upon her arrival, Bonnie was terrified! Imagine her possibly having been prematurely separated from her puppies and then landing in the shelter where it can be very loud and scary. Not surprisingly, Bonnie was terrified and was quickly put in “lockdown” due to being “growly”. Lockdown significantly impacts a dog’s chances of adoption or rescue and it’s almost always due to extreme fear. Our friend Sherry saw something in Bonnie and knew the behavior she was exhibiting was not who she was. Sherry began to very slowly earn Bonnie’s trust by simply tossing treats into her run. Sherry was eventually able to build Bonnie’s confidence to the point that Bonnie no longer had to be housed in lockdown. With this increased freedom, Sherry was able to work with Bonnie outside of her kennel by teaching her an entire repertoire of tricks! When we met Bonnie, those tricks were on full display! It’s so hard to fathom that a truly great dog and one as sweet and smart as Bonnie could be euthanized simply due to lack of space. And it happens all too often. Every shelter dog needs a guardian angel like Sherry. She and her fellow Cobb volunteers are guardian angels for many Cobb County dogs.

Now, Bonnie has truly blossomed with us at Our Pal’s Place! She is the sweetest, wiggly girl who loves to make friends! Bonnie is not letting this second chance at life go to waste!
